Customer Reviews

Pretty good, but...4
If, like me, you live in a medium-fringe TV area, and you are going to be using the supplied (or other external) antenna, one of the first things to do when you receive this cute little TV is to connect it to the best antenna available to do your auto-scan. That's easy because it has a standard antenna connector, and necessary because this TV will_not_tune to any channel not previously found by auto-scan. Manual tuning just selects a channel previously auto-scanned. At my location, the attached rabbit-ear antenna is virtually useless. But with my large, amplified home antenna connected, I easily picked up all the digital stations I usually get, plus one more, and with no problems from the many big trees around my home. So the tuner is very sensitive and not very subject to multipath interference. With the supplied external antenna connected, I eventually managed to get all the stations received using the big antenna, which was a nice surprise, although it took some fiddling with antenna position (Two inches can make all the difference). The digital TV picture provided is very good, with very nice color, resolution and contrast.

I didn't expect great sound, since the speakers are tiny (about 1 inch diameter, on the front). It's certainly not high fidelity, but it is intelligible at least. The sound from earphones is somewhat better.

Other surprises include no volume and no power on/off switch on the credit-card sized remote (No big deal. Gotta be almost within reach to see the picture details anyway). And the internal battery cannot be charged on the car adapter -- It's charged only when the TV is connected to AC power.

The Axion web site is listed in the manual as [...]

Follow-up 2/4/09: Still like this TV, but I'm now on the second one -- The first stopped responding to the remote control after about two weeks, and was quickly replaced for free by Amazon. The second one performs at least as well as the first. Further thoughts: This TV is intended to be placed on a table top, like a picture frame, but if you must mount it elsewhere, well, there is a threaded hole like a tripod socket on the bottom. It doesn't look very strong, and appears to be just molded into the plastic. The manual says nothing about it. Also, the AC adapter does generate some electrical noise (so does the TV), so AM radio reception may be affected, especially if the radio is close by.
I LOVE this TV but...5
I had a 5" black and white in my kitchen and knew with the digital conversion, I would need something else. I ordered this based on the 2 reviews out there at the time and I am so pleased with this TV. I live in Houston so there are almost 40 channels available between the digital and the analog, I get channels on this that I don't even get on my standard cable! initially I had trouble with some of the digital stations, I kept moving the TV around trying to pick up the signal (my problem was that I want the TV to sit under my cabinets and I guess that was interfering with the antenna picking up clear signals). I was getting frustrated and then remembered the other antenna it comes with. I unplugged the internal connection and plugged this extra antenna in and placed it on my window sill and all the channels came in perfectly without having to adjust anything. The cord on the extra stand up antenna is long enough to put it rather far from the TV which is very convenient because you can move it around to find the best reception. The picture is clear as a whistle and the sound is very good, not muffled or fuzzy at all. The wide screen is another bonus, most of the digital HD channels are in wide screen mode so it works out well. This is a no brainer to set up and I am so glad I took the plunge and bought it!

Update: I have not had to use this yet in a power outage but have occasionally unplugged it and brought it to the table to watch during dinner when I wanted to see a show I was in the middle of. The 1 1/2 hr. battery now barely works for 1/2 hr. and I have not used it often. I really bought this to use in my kitchen but also just as importantly, to work during another hurricane after having a small black and white that took batteries and worked beautifully last time I needed it. With the new digital change, I had to find something else to have on hand and apparently, this won't be it. There is a new one coming out in August that does take regular alkaline batteries, I would suggest you go for that one if you want something to work in emergencies. Will still use this in my kitchen but now I will probably have to buy the other one just for emergency use since I live in a hurricane prone area. Very disappointed.

Update #2: Found a solution to the low battery power. The new TV that has the battery option is not well rated and apparently to get the battery power, you have to buy an additional $70 piece. After some research, I discovered that Duracell makes an 100 watt inverter power to go unit, it is a supplemental battery that can be charged from any outlet and/or from your car as well, and it will provide additional battery power not only for this TV but for cell phones, ipods or any other small electronics. Not only will it provide power, it will recharge your devices as well. It provides 44 hrs. of charge for an ipod, 12 days for a mobile phone, and 2 hrs. for a laptop. And, it has several outlets on it so you can use more than one device at a time with this battery. This item sells for about $40 and is a good solution for anyone who worries about being without power for any length of time.

Was asked for a link for the power source so here it is: Duracell 852-0281-07 DC to AC 100 Watt Inverter & 4.0 Amp/Hour Lithium Ion Mobile Power Source and I have this one which I picked up for about $40 but it is currently $99: Xantrex Technologies 852-0281 XPower PowerSource 100 Watt Inverter

UPDATE #3: Finally found a real old fashioned battery solution that this TV will work with. You just need D batteries and can keep replacing them for long term outages. This will also work with other small electronics with the right cords (like cell phones and ipods and anything with a car charger). Unfortunately Amazon doesn't sell it but here is where I got mine:
[...]

This should finally solve a lot of the problems with these digital TVs!
Rechargeable battery powered portable television3
Axion AXN-8701 7-Inch Widescreen Portable Handheld TV with Built-In Tuner (Black)

This hand held television has clear reception. For what it is, it is very good. The only draw back is that the battery is rechargeable for 100 minutes. A hundred minutes will not go far enough after you lose power from a storm.

This will not be a good choice during hurricane season when you really need a television that takes replaceable batteries that can be changed when they become weak.

Amazing, fun game!5
This game has many differences to FIFA 10, but they are mostly small ones. The online mode is about 100 times better than FIFA 10 though since every game you play you earn points now for wins or 1 pt for tie. You are in a league and play 10 games per season, after 10 games u can get relegated or promoted to the next highest league, there are 10 leagues. If you win at the highest league you become champion and earn trophies. Plus all your wins go towards a country you represent, so there are rankings on how good the countries are at playing.

The actual game has better sound than 10 by a million times. It's extremely festive and loud and you really feel like your at a live match. The passing seems a lot more realistic and fluid and the players make brilliant runs now, the cpu seems to think off the ball so much better. Gameplay seems a bit faster so it tends to make the matches more exciting, sometimes it is a bit fast for realism. New penalty system I love, makes it a little harder to get one so there is more excitement. Graphics are about the same as 10 I would say. Players faces are much better though, they really look like the real guys now.
Best Fifa World Cup So Far5
I got this game yesterday and so far I'm very impressed.

This is by far the best world cup EA has created in their FIFA World Cup series. The atmosphere, graphics, and user interface are much improved over last world cup.

First, the positives:

The game play is pretty realistic. The defense is much harder to break down than in previous versions, which seems to keep the scoreline in check.

The online mode is awesome. You can actually pick a team and challenge other teams in world cup.

As far as the graphics go, I believe they're pretty strong. Stadiums, game action, and atmosphere, everything looks good. The crowds make you feel you are actually in the stadium.

Having 199 teams is a huge plus. You can even pick Afghanistan. LOL

Having two Button game play is a great addition for new comers in game.

Penalty kicks have improved and they are alot harder to score.

Btw the Goal looks bigger.

The negatives:

You still can`t play against friends in 2 vs 2 match up.

There are no clubs in it, but that doesn't bother me since I have Fifa 09 and Fifa 10.

Overall. it's a great game. If you want more features and clubs go buy Fifa 10, but if you want better graphics more International teams get this. This

game comes out every 4 years so I didn't mind paying for it and enjoy having my hometown team in there. So if you are hardcore fan of soccer or your

country didn`t make it to world cup buy this. You won't regret.

Take care and I'll see you online! :)
Awesome game!5
If you like soccer and if you like FIFA, go buy this game with your eyes closed (note that I have FIFA 10). The game is similar to FIFA 10, but he gameplay has many improvements, the ball fells more real, the keepers play better and the penalties are harder and need to be practiced.

But where this game really shines is in the online mode, you can play the FIFA World Cup online, with the group phase, quarter finals and everything, the game always sets you up with someone who is in the same part of the tournament as you, so if you are in the final, your online opponent will also be in the final, this sets up interesting matches and will give you exciting matches, because if you lose one game after the group phase you have to start again. Because of this, every game matters and will not be just an online head to head match, and winning the cup is very satisfactory.

Im hooked to this game!

Customer Reviews

FIFA PC =/= FIFA Xbox360/PS31
This game is the same as FIFA 09, the gameplay hasn't been updated much and it is surely not running on anything like the new FIFA 2010 engine that debuted on FIFA 2010 Xbox360 and PS3. It is claimed that there is 360 dribbling, this is a farce, the players don't move nearly the same as the console versions and the physical play is lacking. Furthermore, the passing is not nearly as crisp and still players will pass directly to opponent players. The list of problems, glitches and other issues continues, this is a series in need of a complete overhaul on the PC.

The graphics are horrid, the 'widget' system is still intact and the team customization options remain bland and sub-par at best. EA has continue to release lackluster PC incarnations of the FIFA series and it continues this tradition here. Avoid this game and either buy it on the Xbox360 or PS3, the true versions with 360 dribbling, physical play, and everything else, or Pro Evolution 2010, whose PC version is actually quite excellent.

Do not give EA money for this disservice to its customers, they need to be punished and see that more than a passing effort needs to be made in the PC port.
FIFA 10: good, but not as good as you might hope...4
I fell in love with the Fifa based football game when I bought the 08 version about a year ago. I was missing home and since it's nigh on impossible to get a rugby game here in the USA, I decided a soccer game would substitute.

08 was not bad, a bit clumsy in terms of player behavior and of course there were the physics of player movements etc, which were a little mediocre. Enter the hype of Fifa 10 and I couldn't wait.... Having drooled over the development videos and the eye candy of all the new features on EA's website, I was eagerly looking forward to an improved product. Alas, alack, it was not quite to be.

Definitely there have been some major strides between the 08 version and 10 - 10 is an immensely better product. The collision system is pretty awesome and the physics is handled quite well. The replay movies and up close renderings of the players' features is quite amazing. The graphics on the PC are a little less spectacular than I imagined, and many 09 fans complain that the graphics engine is little more than a re-hash of the 09 game. The blistering features seen in the Xbox 360 engine are not apparent in the PC game and that was disappointing.

Now, I confess I'm still a newbie to the platform, but a quick analysis of the Fifa 10 forums page revealed a bitter stand-off between the PC community and the developers. The console is where this game really shines and was likely intended...such is the nature of many sports franchises it seems. I have read too, that EA Sports toned down the game in PC form to accommidate the weaker PC platforms generally available in South American countries where the sport is huge, but this seems hard to believe.

In short, if you're expecting the game play seen in much of the advertisements, you'll be disappointed.

On the positive side, this is still a really fun game. There are several modes to chose from, including "be a pro" in which you can create your own player and represent your national team. The traditional manager mode is available and delivers a little more information and detail than 08. It's the development of players that I find the most addictive, along with the purchasing of upgrades and more players. It is easy to make mistakes and if you loose too many games and not meet the board's expectations, you may find yourself out of a manager's job. EA Sports also gave your a manager's mode without all the fiddly manager's expectations, so you can simply enjoys playing with your favorite team.

The professional difficulty level is generally challenging enough for me. I've played this game a lot and I've noticed the more team harmony there is the better the team plays. There are still quirks where players make stupid decisions or block each other's shots or passes, often with catastrophic results...defensive play is often mindblowingly annoying. You watch in frustration as strikers glide past your defenders who've bumbled into each other, and I've noticed it's often impossible to select the correct player to make a defensive maneuver to negate an attack.

The team play is generally smarter and teams will operate more complicated attacks and exploit the wings etc, rather than plug their way through the middle of the paddock. This means finding the right strategy to combat even lesser teams.

You need a handheld controller, like a logitech dual action, but I have to confess skill moves using the "trick stick" is not easy to get right. When it comes to beating teams, you need to have a good awareness of player positions using peripheral vision sometimes and be quick to pass and through pass where possible. Once you get a handle on this and can get some acendancy on an opponent, generating a win gets a smidge easier. However, fall behind and it becomes bloody hard to crack an opponents defense.

Sometimes it feels the other team simply shuts up shop and floods the box with so many players there's absolutely no space to attack. That gets furstrating.

The commentary is a little cyclic and generally works...there are some quirks, Clive Tillsley repeats a player's name twice when he threatens to score and there are othe minor bugs in the coding regarding when and where the right comment should fit. It's the same in the 08...

Overall, if you love soccer, this won't disappoint, it just won't blow you away. There are other franchises out there, the PES platform is arguably pretty good too. I can't justify having both. Loads of fun, just not as spectacular as the console version...
FIFA 10 adds a few new features but concentrates on getting the on-field action better then ever before...5
Unfortunately, despite the universal praise we have to knock FIFA 10 down for the complete lack of attention paid to the commentary. Once again, Martin Tyler and Andy Gray provide the punditry, but anybody who has played FIFA 09 will instantly spot the same lines being used again from last year's outing. It's not that it's particularly bad, but if football commentary wants to continue to improve beyond the two-part dialogue between the pair - which it certainly can - then you feel Rutter has to be willing to take a few more risks and show a little more innovation than evolution. Otherwise FIFA 10 is exemplary in the sound and overall presentation. Players call 'man on' and 'down the line'; announcers are heard over the Tannoy and crowds get behind the team with authentic chants. Visuals are once again beyond any competition, with stunningly detailed player models, sublime animation and a nice added depth-blur on close-up scenes.

About adidas
The vision of company founder Adolf Dassler has long become reality, and his corporate philosophy the guiding principle for successor generations. The idea was as simple as it was brilliant. Adi Dassler’s aim was to provide every athlete with the best possible equipment. It all began in 1920, when Adi Dassler made his first shoes using the few materials available after the First World War.
The adidas name dates back to 1948, deriving from the first two syllables of Adi Dassler’s first and last name. One year later, Adi Dassler registered the Three Stripes as a trademark.
After a period spanning almost 70 years, the Dassler Family withdrew from the company in 1989, and the enterprise was transformed into a corporation ("Aktiengesellschaft"). French-born Robert Louis-Dreyfus was Chairman of the Executive Board from April 1993 to March 2001. It was he who initiated adidas’ flotation on the stock market in November 1995. adidas--a name that stands for competence in all sectors of sport around the globe. Today, the adidas product range extends from shoes, apparel and accessories for basketball, soccer, fitness and training to adventure, trail and golf.
